KARACHI: On Sunday, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) successfully neutralized two terrorists involved in the assassination of martyred Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Ali Raza.
The terrorists identified as Hafiz Qasim Rasheed and Usman Qureshi, affiliated with the outlawed Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, were killed in a raid by police in Karachi’s Sher Shah neighborhood.
Usman Rasheed, having spent 12 years in jail, was the emir of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi in Karachi.
In a crucial development, Karachi police apprehended two terrorists, Hamza and Naeem, at Cantt Railway Station upon their return from Multan.
During interrogation, the duo provided vital information about Hafiz Qasim Rasheed and Usman Qureshi, leading to the successful police raid that neutralized the two militants.
The intelligence gleaned from Hamza and Naeem proved instrumental in tracking down Qasim and Usman, ultimately resulting in their elimination and the recovery of a target list, suicide vests, grenades, and modern weapons.
This prior arrest and interrogation paved the way for the CTD’s decisive operation against the terrorists. Earlier, the DSP Raza was martyred in July by assailants in Karimabad, with a security guard who also lost his life in that terrorist attack.
According to CTD officer Raja Umar Khattab, the terrorist had joined Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and was involved in over 35 cases, including 25 murder cases. CCTV footage revealed comprehensive planning and reconnaissance by the militants.
The terrorists were facilitated by Syed Ahmed Hassan, a militant from the banned Sipah-e-Sahaba. This breakthrough marks a significant achievement in the fight against terrorism.
