ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police have provided a one-week extension in the deadline for citizens to obtain driving licenses, shifting it from October 1 to October 7.

The move was taken on the special directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi to facilitate the people further.

Under the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP), from October 18 onward, a strict operation will commence against drivers and motorcyclists who are driving vehicles without valid driving licenses. Offenders will be prosecuted, including arrest and vehicle impoundment.

The authorities have also made it clear that persons found driving without a license would not be issued character certificates until they obtain a license.

The officials stated that the new initiatives are targeted at road safety, traffic law compliance, and discouraging illegal driving throughout the capital.

The ITP has already increased services at facilitation centers, such as extended operational hours and mobile units, to keep up with the increased demand for licenses. The citizens have been requested to apply for licenses prior to the extended deadline to avoid penalties.
