ZHOB: An earthquake hits the Zhob district of Balochistan and the surrounding areas on Monday, causing panic among the residents, according to media reports.
According to the National Seismological Centre, the earthquake measured 4.8 on the Richter scale, with its epicentre located 40 kilometres southwest of Zhob. The depth of the quake was recorded at 20km beneath the Earth’s surface.
The seismic activity occurred just one day after a more strong 5.6-magnitude earthquake that devastated the Musakhel and Barkhan districts, while no immediate injuries or damage were recorded in Zhob.
Earlier, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake shook the Musakhel district in Balochistan on Sunday morning, reported the Seismological Center.
The epicenter of the earthquake was around 80 kilometers northwest of Dera Ghazi Khan.
The quake damaged structures in the Rārāsham region, where two houses collapsed and five others were partially damaged, local administration confirmed.
Three people were injured in the event. An official from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said that assessment of the damage is underway. Relief and response teams have been sent to the affected regions to assist and determine the magnitude of the losses.
