ISLAMABAD: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will sit on August 24 (Sunday) to spot the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon, and Eid Milad-un-Nabi would fall on September 5 if the moon is spotted.
The meeting, to be presided over by Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, will feature scholars, Ministry of Science and Technology officials, and the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).
Zonal and district moon sighting committees would also convene within their jurisdiction, submitting any valid testimonies to the central committee for its decision.
On the other hand, SUPARCO has forecast a high possibility of moon sighting on August 24. According to a spokesperson, the moon is going to be born on August 23 at 11:06 am, and by the night of August 24, it will be more than 32 hours old. With a 45-minute window between sunset and moonset near the coast, the sighting possibilities are positive.
If verified, the first of Rabi-ul-Awwal will fall on August 25 and Eid Milad-un-Nabi on Friday, September 5, which has already been announced a public holiday by the federal government earlier this year.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi is celebrated with religious congregations, recitation of the Quran, prayers, and processions nationwide, highlighting unity and devotion among Muslims.
