Eight family members died as car fell into ravine in Kohistan

KOHISTAN: In a tragic event, eight members of a family died as a Suzuki car fell into a deep ravine in the Matta Banda area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lower Kohistan district on Thursday, according to police officials.

The deceased were from Rawalpindi and returning from Gilgit-Baltistan when their car plunged deep down the mountainous area in Matta Banda, the police said.

The family includes four children, their father, mother, and two female relatives. The adults identified as Asif Iqbal, Maimuna Iqbal, Ayesha Siddique and Bushra Iqbal.

The bodies were rescued by the locals and the rescue team, 1122 staff, and were taken to the district hospital in Pattan.

“Arrangements are being made to dispatch the bodies to Rawalpindi,” said the rescue official.

Earlier, at least four people died, and others sustained injuries when a tractor-trolley fell into a deep gorge in the Ghanche district of Gilgit-Baltistan on Wednesday,  according to officials.

The incident happened when a tractor-trolley loaded with labourers working on a construction site fell some 150-200 feet into a deep gorge, according to police spokesperson Ghulam Muhammad.

The incident occurred in the early morning near the Gulshan Kabir area of Ghanche district.

According to police officials, the driver lost control of the tractor-trolley, resulting in four deaths and 16 injuries
