RAHIM YAR KHAN: At least five police personnel martyred and two others injured in a dacoit attack on Sheikhani check post in Rahim Yar Khan.
Police claim that members of the Indhar and Bukhirani gangs were responsible for the assault. During the attack, the assailants fired hand grenades and rocket launchers. Seven cops were on duty at the post when the incident unfolded.
The cops who were martyred have had their remains moved to Sheikh Zayed Hospital. According to the police, two of the martyrs were from Rahim Yar Khan and three were from Bahawalnagar. The names of the officers who were martyred were Ghazanfar, Nakhil, Khalil, Saleem, and Irfan.
A search operation has been started in the area to find the terrorist.
Earlier, the Counter-Terrorism Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa killed three militants in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Swat’s Barikot area on Friday evening, according to a CTD official.
The CTD launched the operation at 7 PM after receiving the information on the presence of terrorists in the Parrai area of Ghaligay, according to District Police Officer (DPO) Swat Umar Khan Gandapur.
All three of the militants were killed as the police responded to the terrorists’ fire. The terrorist of Afghan descent was sought in nine terrorism crimes, according to DPO Gundapur, while the other two were each implicated in two instances.
Hand grenades, Kalashnikov rifles, and handguns were among the recovered items. To track down their colleagues, the police have confiscated the terrorists’ cell phones, and a search is being conducted to find any surviving accomplices.
