NEW YORK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on Monday arrived in New York to attend the high-level segment of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly from September 22-26.
He will be part of the Pakistani delegation, headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Upon arrival, the Deputy Prime Minister was received by the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, the Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States, Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, and senior officials of the Mission.
The high-level segment of the UNGA session is to be held from September 22 to 26, with Pakistan’s delegation to be led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to the Foreign Office statement.
At the UN, PM Shehbaz will call for the resolution of the occupied Kashmir and Palestine issues.
In his address to the General Assembly, the Prime Minister will urge the international community to resolve the situations of prolonged occupation and denial of the right to self-determination in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) and Palestine, the FO spokesperson stated.
“He will, in particular, draw the attention of the international community towards the grave crisis in Gaza, and call for decisive action to end the suffering of the Palestinians.”
The FO statement added that he will also highlight Pakistan’s perspective on the regional security situation, as well as other issues of international concern, including climate change, terrorism, Islamophobia, and sustainable development.
