Fuel tanker fire in Nigeria kills 147 lives, 50 injured

JIGAWA: A fuel tanker overturned and caught fire in Nigeria, killing 147 people and injuring 50.

According to foreign media, the incident took place in the northern state of Jigawa, Nigeria.

Local police and rescue services reported that the driver lost control of the tanker, causing it to overturn and spill petrol, which later caught fire.

A local police spokesman said the tanker was on its way to Yobe State from Kano. After the tanker overturned, nearby residents tried to collect the spilled petrol.

During this attempt, a fire broke out which engulfed the area and caused a lot of casualties.

Rescue officials have confirmed that the dead have been buried in a mass burial.
