ISLAMABAD: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur on Friday moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking the release of former prime minister Imran Khan on parole, citing threats from India.

The petition, filed through advocate Latif Khosa and Shehbaz Khosa, argued that the prevailing national security situation in Pakistan poses threats to the PTI founder’s life in Adiala Jail.

The request highlighted that the threat posed by India’s recent unprovoked aggression, including a series of drone attacks on various cities, has put Imran Khan’s life at risk.

In his petition, KP Chief Minister mentioned that former premier Khan, during his time in office, openly challenged the policies of the Modi-led Indian government, which has repeatedly embarrassed Modi at both the national and international levels.

The chief minister expressed the fear that the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, was aware that Khan is incarcerated in Adiala and he “can go to any extent”.

“Imran Khan has always raised his voice against PM Modi’s atrocities in Kashmir and on Indian minorities. For this reason, we believe his life is in danger,” Gandapur said, while addressing the media outside the IHC.

He stressed that the PTI founder’s release is critical to foster national unity, engage his millions of supporters in Pakistan and abroad, and amplify Pakistan’s stance against Indian aggression on the world stage.
