GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan government has announced a two-day holiday on June 5 and 6, 2026, in all government educational institutions in connection with preparations for the Gilgit-Baltistan Elections 2026.
According to the Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan, government schools and colleges across the region will remain closed on Friday and Saturday as most educational institutions have been designated as polling stations for the upcoming elections.
Officials said the decision was taken to facilitate polling arrangements and ensure the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
Necessary preparations, including the establishment of polling stations and deployment of election staff, are underway across Gilgit-Baltistan.
The elections are scheduled to be held amid heightened administrative preparations, with authorities aiming to ensure transparent and peaceful polling throughout the region.

As per the schedule for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly general elections, candidates will be able to submit nomination papers from April 16 to April 20, while the list of candidates’ names will be released on April 21.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will continue from April 21 to April 28.
In addition, May 2 has been fixed as the date for filing appeals against the decisions of the Returning Officers, while the Appellate Tribunals will decide the appeals on May 9.
The revised list of candidates will be released on May 10 and the election symbols will be allotted to the candidates on May 12, while polling will be held in all constituencies of Gilgit-Baltistan on June 7.
