GILIGT: Nestled in the Karakoram Mountains, Gilgit-Baltistan has made it to CNN Travel’s list of top 25 destinations for 2025. Often called a hidden gem, this captivating region offers unparalleled adventure and natural beauty, making it a unique destination. A must-visit destination for travelers seeking unique experiences.

CNN Travel’s article, “Where to Go in 2025: The Best Places to See,” celebrates the rugged terrain and breathtaking scenery of Gilgit-Baltistan. It recalls how, during the 1970s, Pakistan was a hotspot for adventure seekers with the famous “hippie trail,” which lured travelers with its stunning mountain scenery. While political instability temporarily dampened its appeal, Gilgit-Baltistan’s towering peaks remain a lasting allure.

The article highlights the region’s unique challenges and rewards for visitors. With flight schedules that can be unpredictable and roads that can be seasonally inaccessible, reaching Gilgit-Baltistan requires effort. However, the destination rewards travelers with stunning views of towering peaks, including five of the world’s 14 highest “eight-thousanders.” Among them is the towering K2, the world’s second-highest mountain and a symbol of both danger and beauty.

CNN Travel notes that hiking in the region surpasses the Himalayas in terms of difficulty and adventure, calling it an experience that is anything but ordinary. Although solo hiking is not permitted in the region due to its challenges, leading global tour operators now offer fully supported 10-day treks in the area, often referred to as “Little Tibet,” with packages starting at around $3,000.

Gilgit-Baltistan’s inclusion in CNN’s 2025 list highlights its growing recognition as a global tourism hotspot. Joining the list alongside places like Almaty in Kazakhstan, India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Rabat in Morocco, and Vancouver Island in Canada, Gilgit-Baltistan is cementing its place as a destination of immense cultural and natural significance.

For adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers, Gilgit-Baltistan offers an unparalleled experience. From its towering peaks to its untouched landscapes, the region promises a journey into a world of breathtaking beauty, making it one of the most exciting places to explore in 2025.
