SKARDU: According to unofficial results from all 31 polling stations of GBA-7 Skardu-I, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Syed Tauqir Mehdi has won the seat by securing 4,500 votes.
According to the unofficial tally, Raja Jalal Hussain Khan of the Istehkam Pakistan Party (IPP) finished second with 4,056 votes.
The result emerged after ballot counting concluded following polling for all 24 seats of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly, which ended at 5 pm on Sunday.
Election officials reported that the overall polling process remained largely peaceful across the region, with no major law and order incidents. However, minor reports of heated exchanges between supporters of rival political parties were received from some polling stations.
More than 950,000 registered voters were eligible to cast their ballots across Gilgit-Baltistan’s 10 districts, while nearly 400 candidates contested the elections.
The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan had established 1,391 polling stations, including 551 highly sensitive and 349 sensitive polling stations, for the electoral exercise.
More unofficial results from other constituencies are expected as the consolidation process continues across the region.
