Govt announces public holiday on 1st Muharram

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has declared 1st Muharram as a public holiday across the province. In this regard, an official notification has been issued by the provincial government, which states that on the first day of Muharram, all government offices and other government institutions will remain closed.

According to the notification, this decision has been taken keeping in mind the law-and-order situation in the province so that the public can be facilitated during Muharram and security arrangements can be improved for gatherings and processions. The government says that all institutions will remain closed on that day, and the public has been appealed to maintain the sanctity of Muharram and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

Strict security arrangements are made in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa every year on the occasion of Muharram, and the police and other security agencies are alerted to avoid any untoward incident.
