ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led federal government has decided to build an airport in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on the demand of overseas Pakistanis.

The construction of an airport in Azad Jammu and Kashmir was a long-standing demand of overseas Pakistanis.

In this context, a letter from British members of parliament of Kashmiri origin has also come to light, supporting this demand.

The British members of parliament had written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and urged the construction of the airport.

The Airports Authority in Islamabad has published an advertisement to hire a consultancy firm for this project.

According to the Airports Authority, qualified consultants can participate in the tender process as per the prescribed procedure.

Meanwhile, the first annual convention of Overseas Pakistanis will begin in Islamabad today.

Its aim is to recognize the contribution of overseas Pakistanis to the national economy.

The government has granted the status of state guests to overseas Pakistanis participating in the convention.

The Overseas Pakistanis Convention will provide a platform where overseas Pakistanis, government representatives and national institutions will come together under one roof.

To facilitate this, help desks of various government departments have been set up so that information, guidance and services can be provided to overseas Pakistanis at one place.

In a video message, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain expressed the government’s commitment to the welfare of overseas Pakistanis and the resolution of their problems.

He said that this is the first time that the Overseas Pakistanis Convention is being organized and the views and suggestions of overseas Pakistanis will be welcomed.

Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis Aun Chaudhry appreciated the role of overseas Pakistanis in Pakistan’s economy.

He said that the hearts of overseas Pakistanis beat for Pakistan.
