LAHORE: It has been decided to provide e-bikes to students on a monthly installment of Rs 2,100, with a hefty subsidy of Rs 70,000 from the government on each e-bike.

According to details, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has decided to expand the scope of the Maryam Nawaz e-bike scheme for the young students of the province, especially female students, and provide 100,000 e-bikes in a year.

Under this revolutionary project, students across Punjab will be able to get modern electric bikes on an interest-free monthly installment of just Rs 2,100.

A hefty subsidy of Rs 70,000 will be provided by the government on each e-bike, so that the actual cost of the bike can be significantly reduced.

Students will have to pay only Rs 14,000 as a down payment (initial amount) to get the bike, after which they will pay easy monthly installments of Rs 2,100.

The Chief Minister, while giving great news for the daughters of Punjab, has announced that the Punjab government itself will pay the down payment and registration fee of eligible female students. Female students will not have to pay any lump sum while buying the bike, they will only have to pay a monthly installment of Rs 2,100.

Moreover, the scope of this scheme has also been extended to Punjab government employees, who will be able to get these bikes on easy installments.

Eligibility criteria for the scheme

To get an e-bike, candidates must meet the following conditions.

Age limit: The applicant should be 18 years of age or above.

Educational requirement: The candidate should be registered as a regular student in any Higher Education Commission (HEC) approved degree college or university in Punjab.

License: The candidate must have a valid motorcycle learner permit or regular driving license.

If the number of applications received exceeds the prescribed quota, the successful candidates will be selected through a highly transparent electronic lottery.

To control the rising prices of petrol and environmental pollution, the government has also decided to provide 10,000 electric bikes on rent to the public in the provincial capital Lahore in the first phase of the project.

For the convenience of citizens, 300 high-tech docking and charging stations will be set up at various locations in Lahore city, where bikes can be easily charged.

The government says that this initiative will not only reduce dependence on expensive petrol but will also provide the public with a cheaper and eco-friendly travel alternative.
