IG Islamabad confirms arrest of 954 supporters during PTI protest

ISLAMABAD: Inspector General of police Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi stated that 954 protesters were taken into custody during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest, speaking at a press conference today

According to Inspector General, alongside Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the chief commissioner of Islamabad almost 610 demonstrators were arrested in yesterdays protest, whereas the supporters in the capital were driven out of D-Chowk and the surrounding areas using non-lethal weaponry.

Additionally, he claimed that more than two hundred vehicles had been seized and that the demonstrators had been found in possession of various weapons, including as Kalashnikov’s and handguns.

According to the Inspector General, the search is still ongoing. He declared that under the pretense of protest, terrorism would not be tolerated.

Strict legal action would be taken against the protesters and their accomplices, he stated, referring to the harm they caused. He reaffirmed his dedication to safeguarding the lives and property of the people.

No one would be permitted to question the writ of state and take law into their own hands, the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad stated in his remarks. He claimed that every law enforcement organization did its part to manage the situation in the nation’s capital.

Moreover, he expressed deep concern on the presence of foreign nationals among the protesters, with 19 Afghan citizens arrested during the clashes.

According to him, only Afghan citizens with Non Objection Certificate (NOCs) will be permitted to reside in the federal capital after their data has been validated.
