ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan has instructed his party to resign from all assemblies and elected bodies except the provincial assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa immediately.

Top sources in the current leadership of the PTI have said on condition of anonymity that Imran has expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of his party’s government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, but has exempted him and his members of the provincial assembly from resigning.

Imran Khan says that the PTI members sitting in the assemblies have failed to achieve their goals, they have strengthened the current rulers with their behavior, these people have failed to provide me with any comfort and there is absolutely no possibility that the PTI founder, who is in jail for his involvement in the May 9 cases, will get any concession under any circumstances.

However, another close and influential source in the party has denied this and said that Imran Khan has not issued any instructions to resign.

Sources say that the message about resignation has created a rift in the ranks of PTI. The 79 independent members of the National Assembly, the vast majority of whom are insisting on ignoring the message of their founder and on the contrary are advising that independent members affiliated with PTI should return to the standing committees of the National Assembly and Senate and use the committees for their own purposes.

The PTI leadership in the National Assembly says that the decision about the committees was taken by Imran Khan, who did not issue any new instructions in this regard. The party leadership says that the resignation from the assemblies will also eliminate the space that PTI has created for itself through its struggle.
