RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan filed an acquittal plea in the £190 million case after the Supreme Court’s verdict in the NAB amendments case.

During the hearing of the 190 million pounds reference at Adiala jail, the former Prime Minister sought acquittal of both he and his wife, Bushra Bibi from the £190 million case.

Khan’s lawyer asserted that the case was invalid after SC’s Friday judgment on the NAB amendment case.

During the court by Judge Nasir Javed Rana, the NAB prosecutor said if the accountability court has jurisdiction in the case, then the acquittal plea can be heard.

In response, the former premier’s counsel said they have not challenged the jurisdiction of the court, adding that it is the discretion of the court to decide its jurisdiction.

Later, the accountability court adjourned the hearing on Khan’s acquittal plea till September 10 and issued notices to the parties.

The development comes after the Supreme Court of Pakistan reinstated the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) amendments law, accepting the federal government’s review plea.

The five-member bench, headed by Justice Qazi Faez Isa, reserved the judgment on June 6 and announced the verdict with a majority of 5-0. Justice Athar Minallah also wrote an additional note.

Talking to the journalists in jail, Imran Khan stated that he must celebrate the court verdict on the NAB amendment case as it will nullify the Toshakhana case and the 190 million pounds reference was also about to conclude.
