ISLAMABAD: In an effort to enhance traffic control and road safety, authorities in the nation’s capital set updated speed restrictions for a number of routes and highways.

The new restrictions, which will apply to both heavy transport/public service vehicles (HTV/PSV) and light transport vehicles (LTV), are intended to improve traffic flow while preserving safety along the city’s busiest thoroughfares.

There are presently speed limits of 80 km/h for light transport vehicles (LTV) and 65 km/h for heavy transport/public service vehicles (HTV/PSV) on major routes like as the Kashmir Highway, Islamabad Highway, and Murree Road.

Constitution Avenue, Jinnah Avenue, and Faisal Avenue are other important thoroughfares with speed limits of 70 km/h for LTVs and 65 km/h for HTVs/PSVs. The lower limits on Lehtrar Road and Kahuta Road are between 40 and 60 km/h.

Local streets, particularly those close to hospitals and schools, have speed limits of 25 km/h for HTVs/PSVs and 30 km/h for LTVs. Service roads are also affected, with dualized roads moving at 60 km/h and single-lane roads moving at 40 km/h. The goal of these changes is to strike a balance between safety and traffic efficiency.

It is anticipated that this action will lower accident rates and enhance the capital’s transport system overall.
