ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has decided to issue driving licenses to all citizens nationwide and facilitate students at their colleges and universities for the issuance of licenses.

During the inauguration of the Islamabad Traffic Police Facilitation on Wheels and Islamabad Traffic Police Education on Wheels on Monday, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that the police would facilitate students at their colleges and universities for the issuance of licenses.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohsin Naqvi said, residents from any part of the country can now obtain driving licenses from Islamabad.

Furthermore, the minister bans issues of permits for illegally tinted windows. He said the existing permissions for the said purpose would also be canceled.

“Today we are officially launching the service to facilitate the issuance and renewal of learners and licenses to students of colleges and universities by visiting their educational institutions. The purpose of the service is to save time,” he added.

Under these initiatives, driving licenses for students will be processed and delivered directly to their institutions, while residents over the age of 70 in the federal capital will have their licenses issued at their homes. For that, the minister unveiled the mobile licenses and learning vans operated by the Islamabad Traffic Police at F-9 Park.

In response to questions, he said that parking facilities at all commercial areas in Islamabad would be ensured, adding that action would be taken against the commercial centers that did not have a parking space.

The federal minister further said that there were various reasons for delays in the issuance of passports, and advocated the establishment of a passport authority to resolve such issues. Soon the ministry will inform the federal cabinet about the draft for legislation in this regard, he said.
