ISLAMABAD: During a police encounter in Islamabad, three members of a notorious inter-provincial car-lifters gang were killed by their accomplices while one female accomplice was arrested on Sunday.

According to the police statement, authorities had been tacking this dangerous gang for the last two months, and information was collected through safe city cameras and informants.

Intelligence reports informed the police that the gang was headed towards Murree. On this information, teams of Anti Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC), CRT, and Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) established special checkpoints in different areas.

Islamabad police spokesperson said, the cops at Kashmir Chowk checkpost tried to stop their vehicles — a Toyota GLI and a Honda Civic — coming from Murree Road on Sunday morning. The gang members in the vehicles suddenly started firing at the police teams.

In the exchange, three of the gang members were killed by gunfire from their partners in the GLI car.

According to the police, a woman, identified as Hasiba Amjad, was injured in the firing, while the accused who opened fire escaped in a GLI car. The dead bodies and the injured were immediately shifted to the hospital.

The deceased were identified as Ilyas Khan (Charsada), and Waqas Khan (Charsada), while one dead body is yet to confirm. The dead accused Ilyas Khan is the leader of the dangerous carlifter gang while the rest are gang members.

The accused stole a car from Murree at night and were absconding when caught in the way. Another vehicle, a Honda Civic, was also stolen from Lahore.

Several non-specimen number plates, jammers, mobiles, ignition breakers, SMG guns, and pistols were recovered from the Honda Civic. A heavy police force reached the spot, and different teams were dispatched to arrest the accused who fled.
