LONDON: Samsung has unveiled its latest foldable smartphone lineup, introducing the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 at a launch event in London.
The South Korean technology giant described the new devices as part of its strategy to further expand its presence in the growing foldable smartphone market. Industry analysts believe the launch is aimed at strengthening Samsung’s position ahead of the expected debut of Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is the company’s flagship foldable smartphone. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and features an advanced triple-camera system, a larger battery, enhanced durability and a redesigned premium form factor.
Samsung has also incorporated a range of artificial intelligence-powered productivity and user-experience features into the device, positioning it as the most advanced foldable phone in the company’s lineup.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 introduces a wider 4:3 display ratio, which Samsung says improves video streaming, multitasking and web browsing experiences.
The device is also equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and features a dual-camera setup, reduced weight and an improved screen-to-body ratio compared to previous models.
Samsung has retained the traditional clamshell folding design in the Galaxy Z Flip 8 while introducing several upgrades, including a stronger hinge mechanism, an improved external display, a faster processor and more durable glass and construction materials.
Samsung has priced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra at $2,099, which is $100 higher than its predecessor.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 will retail for $1,899, while the Galaxy Z Flip 8 has been priced at $1,199, also representing a $100 increase over the previous generation.
Industry experts say the new foldable series reflects Samsung’s determination to maintain its dominance in the foldable smartphone segment as competition intensifies, particularly with the anticipated launch of Apple’s foldable iPhone in the coming months.
