Significant increase in smartphone imports in Pakistan

LAHORE: A significant increase has been recorded in smartphone imports in Pakistan during the current fiscal year.

According to the latest report of the Federal Bureau of Statistics, the value of mobile phones imported from abroad in the last 11 months has increased by about 29 percent compared to the previous year. The reason for this increase is the increasing demand for smartphones, the rapid development of modern mobile technology and digital facilities.

According to the report, during the period from July to May, Pakistan imported smartphones worth one billion 747.533 million US dollars. The total value of these mobile phones in Pakistani currency exceeded 491 billion rupees. In the same period of the previous fiscal year, the country had imported mobile phones worth about one billion 350 million dollars, compared to which there was a clear increase in imports this year.

The report of the Federal Bureau of Statistics also stated that along with mobile phones, the import of other telecom equipment also increased. During the last 11 months, approximately US$394 million worth of telecom equipment was imported from abroad, which is worth approximately Rs195 billion in Pakistani currency.
