Former Footballer Kevin Keegan passes away

LONDON: Kevin Keegan, former England football star, has passed away at the age of 75 after a long battle against cancer. This was confirmed in a statement released by the star’s family on Monday.

Kevin Keegan, who is considered one of the best players of his time, had been diagnosed with stage four cancer in January. “With enormous sadness we announce the passing of Kevin Keegan, aged 75,” the family statement reads.

“Former England player and manager Kevin Keegan has been fighting his battle with cancer and passed peacefully surrounded by his wife and daughters.”

The legendary striker, who had played for Liverpool F.C., was known by his nickname, Mighty Mouse. He won four titles with Liverpool FC before moving to German side Hamburg in 1977.

Kevin returned to England to play for Southampton and then Newcastle. He later became a manager.

He led Newcastle to the Premier League in 1993 and made them a team to be reckoned with in the league, with them being referred to as “The Entertainers,” as they came runners-up in 1996.

After that, Keegan went on to manage Fulham, followed by managing England between 1999 and 2000.

In addition to that, he spent four years as the manager at Manchester City, and after that retired briefly to manage Newcastle in 2008.
