KARACHI: In a recent update, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced the Gaza Million march, set to take place on Sunday, January 12, at Sea View in Karachi, to express solidarity with the Palestinians who are facing oppression by Israel.
The march will start from Nishan-e-Pakistan in the evening, and JI chief Karachi chapter Munem Zafar has called upon the people of Karachi to come out and unite with the people of Gaza.
Munem Zafar stated that it is genocide and siege, with 85% of Gaza destroyed by Israel’s bombings with the help of international forces. He assured that it’s a matter of faith and belief for the entire Ummah to ask the Palestinian Authority to reinforce its legitimacy as a living symbol of their Prophet’s Mission.
The latest United Nations report on Gaza shows that since October 2023, more than 46,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed.
Pope Francis has intensified his criticism of Israel’s military assault in Gaza, denoting the humanitarian situation across the Palestinian enclave as “very serious and shameful.” He has denounced the bombing of civilians, the razing of hospitals, and the disruption of energy networks, which has left children freezing to death because of the cold weather since they have no power.
He also urged an end to the war in Ukraine and many other global conflicts, while voicing grave concern over climate change.
The Gaza Million march is a manifestation of the Karachiites coming out in solidarity to stop oppression and violence against the Palestinians. It is a chance for the community to come together and champion the cause of the unlucky Gaza people suffering greatly from the long-standing conflict.
As Munem Zafar rightly put it, the freedom of Palestine is a matter of faith and belief for the entire Ummah, and we must stand united in our demand for justice and peace in the region.
