Justice Munib Akhtar to take oath as acting chief justice tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: Justice Munib Akhtar will take the oath as acting Chief Justice of Pakistan on May 18 due to the foreign visit of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa.

As per the reports, the swearing-in ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Supreme Court Judges Block, where Justice Yahya Afridi will take the oath.

Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa will visit Azerbaijan from May 18–22 to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting.

The meeting serves as an important platform for regional countries to discuss important issues and enhance cooperation.

Justice Munib Akhtar, the second senior judge after Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, will take over as acting chief justice in the absence of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah is also abroad at present, due to which the temporary appointment of Justice Akhtar is necessary.

Supreme Court judges and senior lawyers are expected to attend the event, highlighting the importance of the occasion.
