KARACHI: A devastating blast rocked the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of Karachi, resulting in the loss of two lives and injuring another individual, including a child, on Wednesday.

The explosion, which occurred in Haji Lemo Goth, shook the neighborhood, leaving residents in shock and grief. Tragically, despite efforts to save the child’s life, they succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.

In response to the incident, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) swiftly arrived at the scene, cordoning off the area for investigation. The injured were promptly transported to a private hospital for medical attention, as authorities from the Crime Scene Investigation Unit of the Karachi police also commenced their examination of the site.

This unfortunate blast in Karachi comes amidst a string of violent events leading up to the general elections scheduled for tomorrow. Incidents across the country, including South Waziristan and Balochistan, have seen political workers targeted and fatal explosions claim numerous lives, highlighting the volatile atmosphere surrounding the electoral process.

As investigations unfold, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East Syed Irfan Ali Bahadur revealed that a 17-year-old resident of the area, and son of a police officer, was identified as the perpetrator of the blast. The motive behind the incident remains unclear, with authorities detaining the boy’s brother for questioning and conducting a thorough search of their residence.
