KARACHI: The Sindh Food Authority on Tuesday raided a factory in Karachi’s Buffalo Colony, where chemicals were added to water to make milk.

According to ADG Sindh Food Authority Muzamil Haliputo, the factory was producing 9,000 liters of milk by using 750 kg of chemicals.

Officials destroyed the chemical-laced milk prepared by mixing 480 liters of water with chemicals.

Legal action is being taken against the staff who produce unhealthy milk.

Muzamil Haliputo said that the authorities will not tolerate such actions that pose a threat to public health.

Last month, the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) raided an artificial milk factory, seized toxic chemicals and arrested the staff.

According to the SFA, the action was taken in Buffalo Colony area of Karachi after receiving complaints that the factory was preparing fake (artificial) milk by adding chemicals to the water.

A network of fake milk producers had been operating for a long time, supplying impure milk to different areas of Karachi and labelling it as “Buffalo Colony fresh milk”.

ADG Muzamil Haliputo led the SFA team that seized 750 kg of chemicals used to make 9,000 litters of fake milk.

Moreover, 480 liters of manufactured fake milk were seized and destroyed. The entire staff of the factory has been arrested and the SFA has vowed to take strict action against those involved in the production and supply of adulterated milk.
