KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast light rain and drizzle in Karachi over the next three days, while sea breezes have been confirmed to be active, which will provide relief from the humidity.
According to the PMD’s Early Warning Centre, the city is expected to witness partly cloudy skies and humid weather, with daytime temperatures ranging between 31°C and 33°C. Several areas may experience light rain or drizzle during this period.
The department noted that Karachi will benefit from the continued sea breezes, while other parts of Sindh are likely to remain hot and dry, although light rain is likely along the eastern coastline.
The forecast comes after weeks of devastating monsoon rains. In August, more than 16 people, including women and children, died in rain-related incidents across Karachi, with heavy downpours causing wall collapses, electrocution and drowning in various areas.
Just last week, another spell of torrential rain claimed at least five lives, flooding neighbourhoods, washing away vehicles and stranding residents. The military and civil authorities launched joint relief operations in the flood-hit areas, rescuing over 400 people.
The rain also caused the Thadu Dam in Gadap Town to overflow, inundating parts of the M-9 motorway and severely disrupting traffic. Streets and houses in nearby areas, including Gadap Town and Scheme 33, were inundated, forcing residents to spend the night in fear as floodwaters entered their homes.
