PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution seeking the creation of a new Hazara province, comprising districts that fall in the Hazara division of KP province.
The resolution was moved by a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member, Nazir Ahmad Abbasi, which was subsequently adopted by the house by majority vote.
The resolution reads that the provincial government should effectively and efficiently complete all consultative and administrative steps required to establish the new province.
“The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government should prepare the necessary recommendations regarding the structure, boundaries, and administrative action plan for the new province and present these recommendations to the relevant forums,” it added.
“This is to ensure that there are no delays in completing the constitutional process. The house unanimously passed the resolution,” the resolution stated.
Recognising the historical and cultural identity of the Hazara region, its growing administrative needs, and the long-standing demands of the people for effective representation and equitable development, the resolution calls on the federal government to promptly initiate the constitutional process necessary for the establishment of Hazara province under Article 239 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has already adopted similar resolutions in 2014 and 2022, seeking the establishment of Hazara province.
