PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced a one-month waiver of schedule tax and stand tax for the transport sector as part of relief measures aimed at reducing passenger fares.

The meeting reached its final decision when Riaz Khan Mehsud, who served as Commissioner of Peshawar Division and Chairman of the Regional Transport Authority, conducted the video-link meeting.

The new directive establishes a one-month tax holiday, which includes scheduled tax and stand tax for all districts. The transport operators received instructions to pass on the relief benefits to their customers by implementing fare reductions.

Commissioner Mehsud issued strict instructions to ensure effective monitoring of fares. He ordered the deployment of three assistant commissioners in each district to check fares at transport stands and major highways.

He also directed all deputy commissioners to personally supervise field operations to prevent overcharging. The government requires transporters to show the approved fare list at the front of each vehicle so passengers can easily access the official rates.

The commissioner visited passenger stands, GT Road, and the motorway in Peshawar, which served as the meeting location. The main objective is to ensure the uniform implementation of reduced fares across all districts and to provide maximum relief to the public.
