PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government formally launched a comprehensive age relaxation policy for applicants who want to begin their professional career in the public sector.
The Chief Secretary pointed out in the notification that under the new policy, a general age relaxation of a maximum of 10 years for various groups of government posts is allowed.
As per the new Khyber Pakhtunkhwa age relaxation policy, applicants seeking Grade 17 and above vacancies are entitled to a 10-year upper age concession.
Similarly, Secretariat vacancies of Grade 16 and below will also be entitled to the same concession. For the non-Secretariat vacancies, the Administrative Secretary and concerned departmental heads would be empowered to grant relaxation in age.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa age relaxation policy also has special terms for the dependents of government workers martyred in terrorist acts. Their widows and children will have further consideration under the new regulation.
The new Khyber Pakhtunkhwa age relaxation policy comes with a major amendment to the Civil Servants Rules 2008, which is indicative of the inclusive employment practices within the provincial government.
It comes after a similar step by the Sindh government earlier this year that raised the age limit for public sector jobs from 28 to 33 years, although that policy did not include jobs in the Sindh Police and Public Service Commission.
In a separate development, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission (KPPSC) also implemented a one-time age limit extension for the Provincial Management Service (PMS) examination.
Aspirants are now eligible to apply until the age of 35 and are given one more chance, bringing the total to four for the 2025 and 2026 cycles.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa age relaxation scheme is expected to benefit many aspiring civil servants throughout the province, giving them a fresh chance to work within the government sector. This will also enable individuals to secure stable government employment.
