PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has reaffirmed its interest in acquiring a stake in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), submitting a competitive bid that surpasses the Rs10 billion offered by the Blue World Consortium.

In a follow-up letter to Federal Privatisation Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Hassan Masood Kunwar, Vice-Chairman of the KP Board of Investment and Trade (KP-BOIT), requested an update on the proposal, emphasizing the strategic importance of the bid.

The KP government intends to preserve and revitalize PIA, restoring its status as the national flag carrier while aligning with Pakistan’s broader national interests.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has expressed strong support for the bid, ensuring considerable resources and support to achieve these goals. KP-BOIT has also shown a willingness to discuss the proposal in further detail with the federal government, outlining its strategic vision and competitive bid.

The KP government’s interest in acquiring PIA stems from concerns over the airline’s potential sale to private or foreign-backed entities. Chief Minister Gandapur has criticized the Sharif family for attempting to acquire PIA “for next to nothing,” emphasizing KP’s commitment to public service and national interests.
