LAHORE: The provincial capital has reached crisis levels of air pollution, with its Air Quality Index (AQI) soaring to a critical 435, posing severe health risks to its residents.
The city’s alarming AQI levels have catapulted it to the top spot among Pakistan’s most polluted cities, according to real-time data from IQAir.
The neighboring cities of Multan and Rawalpindi in Punjab are also grappling with perilously high pollution levels, securing the second and third positions on the list.
The concerning trend of high AQI levels spans across the country, with Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa being the hardest hit.
Cities in these provinces have witnessed AQI levels that signify substantial health hazards, particularly for vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions.
To mitigate these risks, immediate action is necessary to address air quality and safeguard public health. This includes implementing stricter regulations on industrial emissions, promoting cleaner transportation options, and raising awareness about the importance of air quality.
