KARACHI: As the rescue operation continues, another body was pulled out of the rubble of a building in Lyari, taking the death toll to 18.
According to rescue officials, the operation is ongoing at the scene of the accident and the work of removing the rubble is being done with extreme caution. There is a fear that people are still buried under the ruins, which may increase the death toll.
Rescue officials say that so far today, the bodies of 2 people have been pulled out of the rubble, taking the death toll to 16, including 10 men and 6 women.
On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner South Javed Khoso, while talking to the media, said that the rescue operation will take another 8 to 10 hours.
The rescue operation has been entered into the next phase with caution. There is a fear that 10 to 12 people are still buried in the rubble.
The DC stated that this building was declared dangerous three years ago. A notice was issued to the building a month and a half ago.
There are still 22 extremely dangerous buildings in Lyari. So far, 16 dangerous buildings have been evacuated in Lyari, and action is being taken to evacuate other buildings.
Javed Khoso said that after the notice, residents are informed to vacate the building, and electricity and gas connections of dangerous buildings are cut off if the building is not vacated.
