ISLAMABAD: The government has launched a major crackdown against several prominent restaurants and supermarkets in Islamabad, sealing multiple outlets over tax violations and the sale of expired food products.
According to officials, a branch of the popular fast-food chain Red Apple was sealed for alleged tax default and non-compliance with tax regulations.
More concerning, however, was the discovery of expired food items being used and served at some of the capital’s most well-known dining establishments. Authorities sealed Tuscany Courtyard, Sweet Crème, and Jaybees after inspections reportedly found expired food products being offered to customers.
The operation also targeted major retail chains. Well-known supermarkets, including Imtiaz, Al-Fatah, and Springs Mart, were sealed after food safety inspectors allegedly found expired products displayed on store shelves.
Officials stated that the action sends a clear message that no business, regardless of its brand reputation or market standing, is above the law when it comes to public health and regulatory compliance.
The authorities have urged consumers to remain vigilant and always check expiry dates before purchasing food items or dining out.
