MDCAT fees for overseas Pakistanis fixed at $10,000 in Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved the new policy for admission in government and private medical and dental colleges across the province.

According to the new decision, the children of overseas Pakistanis will have to pay $10,000 fee to appear in the MDCAT.

The decision was taken during a special meeting on health, chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

In the meeting, passing the MDCAT was declared mandatory for admission to government medical colleges.

It was also decided that once the candidate’s name appears in the private medical college merit list, the candidate will have to deposit one-third of the fee at the University of Health Sciences (UHS).

After the final merit list of private medical and dental colleges is released, UHS will transfer one-third of the collected fee to the concerned college.

Students seeking admission will deposit the remaining fee a the concerned private medical and dental college after the final merit list is released, the meeting said.

Furthermore, the meeting agreed on a mutual proposal of compulsory service after postgraduate training in private hospitals. The trainee doctor will be sent for specialization in the relevant field at private medical colleges.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister welcomed the first successful angioplasty at the Sahiwal Cardiac Center.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed Mayo Hospital to devise foolproof and transparent methods for treating patients at the Ablation Center.

Maryam Nawaz stressed that free treatment facilities should be available to patients in every hospital in Punjab. She said her aim is to ensure treatment for every cancer patient in the province.

The Chief Minister also directed immediate steps for the establishment of Nawaz Sharif Medical City and approved the formation of boards of management for various institutions.
