LAHORE: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) have announced that Motorway M-4, connecting Faisalabad to Multan, and Motorway M-2, linking Islamabad to Lahore, have been opened for all types of traffic.
Earlier today, Motorway authorities closed different sections of M-2, including from Lilla Interchange to Kot Momin and Nella-Dullah Interchange to the main Islamabad toll plaza.
The M-11 from Lahore to Sialkot and the M-4 from Khanewal to Pindi Bhattian were also closed due to the smog, which resulted in zero visibility on major roads.
According to the NHMP, the Sukkur-Multan Motorway (M-5) was also opened from different sections including Rohri to Rahim Yar Khan and Rahim Yar Khan to Jalalpur Pirwala.
Motorway Police Spokesperson emphasized the importance of cautious driving during foggy conditions, advising citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during foggy hours, complete journeys during daylight and reach destinations before fog sets in, use fog lights in vehicles, refrain from speeding, and maintain extra distance from the next vehicle.
Lahore continues to top the global rankings for the most polluted cities in the world. According to the real-time AQI, the air quality in the Punjab capital is hazardous with AQI standing at 1537 followed by Delhi at the second spot with 493 AQI US.
