ISLAMABAD: A special court of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday rejected the acquittal plea of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana II case.

Special Courts judge Shahrukh Arjumand dismissed the acquittal plea and announced that the former prime minister and ex-first lady will be indicted in the said case on November 18.

The court had reserved its verdict on the acquittal plea on November 8.

The development comes a month after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted bail to Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana-II case against Rs1 million surety bonds. After month-long incarceration, the former premier’s wife was released from the Adiala Jail.

On July 13, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) booked Khan and Bibi in a new case related to an alleged illegal sale of a jewelry set gifted to Bushra by the Saudi crown prince when Imran Khan was the prime minister of the country from 2018 to 2022.

Both were arrested in a fresh Toshakhana reference, hours after they were acquittal in the Iddat case.

The couple was also sentenced to 14 years in prison and was handed down a fine of Rs1.57 billion in the first Toshakhana case, however, the sentence in the reference was suspended by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in April.
