Islamabad High Court grants bail to Bushra Bibi in Toshakhana case

Bushra Bibi bail in 32 cases

ISLAMABAD: Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday in the Toshakhana-II case.

Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb accepted her post-arrest bail plea with a surety bond of Rs1 million and directed authorities to release her immediately.

This decision comes after a special judge central had previously rejected the post-arrest bail pleas of both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the same case, which was heard by Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.

The Toshakhana-II case is related to a fresh National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference, which led to the arrest of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi on July 13.

This arrest occurred just hours after their acquittal in the Iddat case. The NAB team, headed by Deputy Director Mohsin Haroon, was arrested at Adiala Jail.

It’s worth noting that the couple was previously sentenced to seven years in prison and fined Rs500,000 each in February after a trial court found their nikah to be fraudulent.

However, they had filed appeals against their conviction in the Iddat case, which were accepted by the Islamabad district and sessions court.

Bushra Bibi had moved the IHC for bail in the Toshakhana-II reference, and her plea was heard by Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb. The court’s decision to grant her bail marks a significant development in the case.
