ISLAMABAD: NADRA has refuted online rumours of a change in policy regarding inclusion of “Resident of AJK” on Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) while clarifying the application process.
In a statement issued on Monday, NADRA confirmed that the designation is printed in black on smart CNICs and in red on old CNICs.
To obtain this designation, applicants will have to provide a valid State Subject Certificate issued by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government. NADRA categorically stated that recent rumours on social media suggesting a change in policy are baseless and intended to mislead.
The authority issued over 50,000 CNICs between December 2024 and January 2025 with the designation “Resident of AJK State”. NADRA acknowledged that some CNICs were issued without nomination due to applicants’ failure to submit the required State Subject Certificate or errors during data entry.
To address these shortcomings, NADRA has immediately contacted the affected individuals to arrange for free re-issuance of corrected CNICs.
Furthermore, NADRA urged applicants who had not initially submitted the required State Subject Certificate to re-apply with correct documents and pay the relevant fee to get the correct designation on their CNIC.
