No breakthrough in PTI–JUI talks as Fazlur Rehman remains unsatisfied

ISLAMABAD: The former Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry has stated that there are no signs of any breakthrough between PTI and JUI-F at present.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman is not satisfied with the leadership of PTI. Maulana Fazlur Rehman has reservations about the style of PTI’s discourse.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman believes that the PTI leadership is not holding serious talks. No new developments are expected at the political level at present. The departure of Ali Amin Gandapur has improved the atmosphere somewhat.

If there had been contact between JUI and PTI earlier, things could have moved forward. Asad Qaiser is making efforts, but there is still a lack of trust. Maulana is not running an NGO; he should be given a role in the KP government.

Additionally, Bilawal Bhutto has also met Maulana Fazlur Rehman. PTI currently does not have a clear negotiation strategy.

After Salman Akram Raja’s behavior, Maulana kept his distance from PTI. The meeting is being seen in the context of the 27th Constitutional Amendment. The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will have to go himself for serious talks.

The group of Asad Qaiser, Shahram Tarakai, and Junaid Akbar has become active. Maulana Fazlur Rehman should lead the opposition alliance. Speaking on ABN News’ program Tajzia, he said that the political process can move forward with unity in the opposition.

There are also differences in the PTI on the nomination of Mahmood Khan Achakzai. After Ayaz Sadiq’s remarks, Achakzai’s nomination as the leader of the opposition is difficult.

The speaker does not have the authority to watch speeches under Articles 62, 63. PTI should do national politics, not sectarian.

People were expelled from the party with cold fists; now there is an empty field. PTI is a federal party; it has a vote bank in all four provinces.

If Achakzai is nominated by the majority, the speaker cannot stop him. The obstruction of Achakzai’s path by the speaker will be excessive. The political atmosphere can improve with the opposition alliance led by Maulana.

If this alliance had been formed 6 months ago, the situation would have been different. Maulana Fazlur Rehman can prove to be a more effective opposition leader than Mahmood Achakzai.
If Maulana Fazlur Rehman becomes the opposition leader with the support of PTI, it will be a big breakthrough. Maulana Fazlur Rehman can play a role in providing relief to the founder of PTI.

There is currently an atmosphere of tight grouping and chaos within PTI. The arrival of Sohail Afridi has increased tension within the party. Each group in PTI is giving its own nomination. PTI has no clear political strategy other than protest.

Despite Mahmood Khan Achakzai having 74 votes, it is difficult to reach an agreement on the opposition leadership. The chaos within PTI has weakened the opposition alliance. According to political observers, the opposition may find a new direction under Maulana’s leadership.

The possibilities of talks with Afghanistan seem to be fading. The Afghan Taliban are not ready to come to the table for talks, nor to give any guarantees. Pakistan is now left with limited policy options on Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s security forces have suffered heavy losses in the last two and a half years.

Experts are not surprised by the current situation in Afghanistan; the reaction was expected. It is not clear whether the government is consulting senior experts on Afghanistan policy.

The role of diplomacy is absent; all focus is on the military angle. The Defense Minister’s statements are coming, but the Foreign Office is silent. The lack of a comprehensive diplomatic policy on Afghanistan is worrying.

Khawaja Asif’s recent tweet is a clear indication that Pakistan is moving towards a major change. Both the eastern and western border fronts of Pakistan are dangerously tense. Pressure on two fronts simultaneously, a new strategic challenge for Pakistan.
