SIALKOT: Former Defence Minister and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif addressed the ongoing electoral concerns, emphasizing the significance of political stability for the country’s economic well-being. Asif’s remarks come amidst a backdrop of heightened scrutiny following allegations of election rigging.

Addressing the recent resignation of Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaqat Ali Chatha over alleged rigging in the 2024 elections, Asif refrained from commenting directly on the accusations, highlighting that an inquiry committee formed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is already investigating the matter.

Asserting the role of the ECP in overseeing elections, Asif stated that commissioners have no direct involvement in the electoral process. Instead, he emphasized the need for political leaders to prioritize the welfare of the Pakistani people over personal interests, especially in the aftermath of the election.

With the PML-N securing a majority in the 2024 elections and positioning themselves for governance in Punjab, Asif reiterated the party’s commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring transparent governance.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaqat Ali Chatha’s admission of responsibility for the election rigging has sparked uncertainty over the political landscape. Chatha’s acknowledgment of irregularities, including the use of fake seals to manipulate results, has underscored the need for thorough investigation and accountability in the electoral process.
