Pak-Egypt defense ties to boost regional peace: Field Marshal

CAIRO: Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir has said that Egypt is a brotherly Islamic country and defense cooperation between the two countries will be helpful in promoting regional peace and stability.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Asim Munir is on an official visit to Egypt, and this visit is being made to further promote military cooperation and defense partnership between Pakistan and Egypt.

The statement said that during the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir held meetings with Egyptian Minister of Defense and Production General Abdul Majeed Saqr and Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa Fathi, and in these meetings, matters of mutual interest, the regional security situation, and defense cooperation were discussed in detail.

Field Marshal Asim Munir said that Egypt is a brotherly Islamic country and that defense cooperation between the two countries is not only in the interest of the people but will also be helpful in promoting regional peace and stability.

Field Marshal Asim Munir was presented with a guard of honor during his visit to the Egyptian Ministry of Defense, laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, and met with Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar.

On this occasion, the Grand Imam expressed his views on the challenges facing the Muslim Ummah, and the Field Marshal stressed the need to eliminate extremist ideologies and distorted interpretations of Islam.
