Pakistan & Iran hold constructive talks amid recent tensions

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jalil Abbas Jilani, engaged in a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Amir Abdollahian, in an effort to address ongoing issues between the two nations.

According media reports, the telephonic discussion focused on the exchange of views regarding the recent conflict between the two countries. The spokesperson for the Foreign Office issued a statement, noting that Jalil Abbas Jilani expressed Pakistan’s readiness to work on all issues based on mutual trust and cooperation with Iran.

Emphasizing the need for close cooperation on security matters between the two neighboring nations, Jilani underscored the significance of strengthening ties for regional stability. This contact comes as a follow-up to recent developments and signals a positive turn in diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Iran.

Responding to the exchange, Iranian Ambassador Syed Rasoul Mousavi expressed on social media that leaders of both nations are aware that recent tensions will only benefit their common enemies and terrorists. Mousavi further highlighted the pressing issue of ending Zionist crimes in Gaza as a crucial matter for the Muslim world.

In a reaction to Mousavi’s statement, Additional Secretary at the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rahim Hayat Qureshi, acknowledged the sentiments and extended gratitude to the dear brother Rasoul Mousavi. Qureshi asserted that Pakistan and Iran will move forward through positive dialogue to address mutual challenges, including counterterrorism efforts.

Spokesperson for the Foreign Office, Zahra Baloch, also confirmed the affirmation of relations between Pakistan and Iran. Meanwhile, the newly appointed Iranian Ambassador stressed brotherhood and camaraderie between the two nations in his social media messages.

It’s noteworthy that the recent telephone contact occurred against the backdrop of reduced tensions between Pakistan and Iran. Both countries exchanged positive messages at the governmental level, fostering hopes for improved diplomatic ties.

It’s crucial to mention that on January 17, following an Iranian violation of Pakistan’s airspace resulting in the tragic death of two innocent children and injuries to three girls, Pakistan swiftly retaliated with a targeted operation against terrorist hideouts in the Sistan and Baluchestan province of Iran within 48 hours.
