PM Shehbaz ends his authority regarding appointments in ministries

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has made an important decision to curtail the authority of the Prime Minister in reaction to the creation of various appointments and posts in federal ministries and divisions.

The federal cabinet approved the recommendations after Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s suggestion. The recommendations were approved through circulation from the Federal Cabinet.

According to the sources, the authority of the Prime Minister for the creation of appointments and vacancies was entrusted to the federal ministers, advisers, ministers of state, and secretaries.

As the authority of the Prime Minister to create the posts has ended, the Ministry of Finance in consultation with the Establishment Division will create the posts of experts and professionals.

The concerned federal Minister, Minister of State, or Advisor will appoint the consultants. Meanwhile, the appointment of Research Associates and Young Professionals will be done with the approval of the concerned Secretary. The approval of the Prime Minister will be necessary for the appointment of technical advisors.

According to government sources, the Shehbaz government is mulling to appoint experts and professionals in various ministries and divisions for better performance. The recruitment process will be done through a competitive process and a special selection board, sources said.

Sources privy to the development said that former Prime Minister Imran Khan during his tenure kept this power of appointments to himself.
