ISLAMABAD: The Meteorological Department has decided to purchase modern surveillance radars to be installed in different parts of the country, here on Monday.
According to the details, five fixed surveillance radars will be installed in different parts of the country, while three portable surveillance radars and 300 automatic weather stations will be installed in different cities of the country.
Five fixed surveillance radars will be installed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Cherat, Dera Ismail Khan, Quetta, Gwadar and Lahore, while Karachi already has a synchronized radar station.
Additionally, three portable radars and 300 automated weather stations will be deployed across the country. Balochistan will get 105 stations, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 75, Sindh 85, Punjab including Karachi 35 stations.
Director General Sahibzad Khan said the equipment provided by the World Bank will provide timely insight into climate change, while the project will be completed in three years at a cost of 14 billion rupees ($50 million), foreign experts and Local engineers assisted by experts.
