Police arrest seven suspects in Sheikh Idrees case investigation

CHARSADDA: Police have made significant progress in the target killing case of renowned religious scholar Maulana Muhammad Idrees in Charsadda, arresting seven suspects and expanding the investigation.

Investigating officials say that the arrested persons were taken into custody from different areas of Mardan and are being interrogated from different angles.

Officials say that geo-fencing of mobile data in Charsadda, Nowshera, and surrounding areas is being done to trace the movements related to the incident.

According to the police, CCTV footage and a video are also being examined in which the alleged attacker is seen fleeing the scene.

Investigators say the attacker was riding a motorcycle and reached Charsadda via a service road through various areas of Peshawar, including Chamkani and Kohat Road.

According to initial information, the accused reached Charsadda at around 5:30 am on the day of the attack. According to security officials, the case is being investigated with the help of the Safe City Project Team and other special units.

The police have also intensified efforts to verify digital evidence and surveillance footage to reveal the full truth of this alleged planned target killing.

Earlier, the militant group Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) claimed responsibility for the assassination of Sheikh Idrees in Charsadda, according to reports.

Sources said the attack targeted the religious scholar in the district of Charsadda, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The group later issued a statement claiming involvement in the killing, though independent verification of the claim is still awaited.

Renowned religious scholar Maulana Muhammad Idrees martyred in assassination attack

A renowned religious figure of Charsadda, a former member of the provincial assembly, and Sheikh Hadith Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Idrees Tarangzai was martyred in an assassination attack. Maulana Muhammad Idrees was a former MPA of JUI.

According to sources, the shooting incident on Maulana Muhammad Idrees took place in the Atmanazai area of ​​Charsadda district. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

Maulana Muhammad Idrees was on his way to Darul Uloom Atmanzai to give a lecture on Hadith when the incident took place. His body was shifted to DHQ Hospital, where thousands of his devotees reached as soon as the information was received.

Sheikh Hadith Maulana Muhammad Idrees was counted among the renowned and eminent scholars of Pakistan. According to police sources, the shooting was carried out by unknown persons. After the incident, he was immediately shifted to the hospital, but he died on the way. After the shooting incident, the accused fled the scene.
