ISLAMABAD: PTI leader Hammad Azhar, who has been in hiding since the May 9 incident, announced his resignation from party positions on Wednesday, citing his inability to lead effectively during the ongoing challenging period.

He stepped down from his roles as General Secretary and acting president of PTI’s Punjab chapter, sharing a two-page resignation letter on the social media platform X.

In his letter addressed to Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Omar Ayub, Azhar expressed his frustration over being implicated in 42 fake terrorism cases and being banned from appearing on electronic media by PEMRA.

He recounted multiple raids on his home, harassment of his family, and the necessity of sending his wife and children abroad to shield them from the trauma of ongoing raids and uncertainty.

Azhar stated that it would be selfish of him to continue in his positions while remaining in hiding and unable to represent the party, especially on television.

He emphasized the importance of having leadership in Punjab that can be present on the ground, interact with the media, and directly communicate with the party’s founding chairman.

While resigning from his official positions, Azhar expressed his commitment to continue serving the party as a loyal and ideological worker.
