ISLAMABAD: Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Salman Akram Raja on Tuesday dismissed rumours about the health of party founder Imran Khan.

Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, Raja said: “Imran Khan had a routine check-up, and he is absolutely healthy. There is no truth in the claims of him refusing to eat Sehri or being banned from offering prayers.”

Regarding the legal matters related to Khan’s imprisonment, Raja revealed that Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi had appointed Chaudhry Zaheer Abbas as their lawyer.

He said that Faisal Chaudhry has been instructed to hand over all the petitions to Chaudhry Zaheer.

Raja lamented that it was unfortunate that some individuals tried to use the legal profession to enhance their political stature. “The person to whom the founder assigns responsibility will handle politics,” he confirmed.

He also announced that Niazullah Niazi has been appointed as Imran Khan’s official spokesperson while Bushra Bibi has selected four focal persons.

On the issue of opposition alliance, Salman Akram Raja confirmed that discussions have taken place but refrained from providing full details. He said that we respect Maulana Fazlur Rehman and hope that he will join the alliance. The founder has given instructions regarding Maulana, which I will convey to him.

Raja condemned Barrister Saif’s recent statement as irresponsible and directed Sheikh Waqas Akram to inquire into why such a statement was made.
